Motorbike-Sized Bluefin Tuna Sells for M in Tokyo Public sale


A bluefin tuna bought for 207 million yen (round $1.3 million) at Tokyo’s Toyosu fish market on Sunday, the second-highest value ever recorded for the reason that public sale began accumulating information in 1999.

Michelin-starred sushi chain operator, Onodera Group, and seafood wholesaler Yamayuki co-purchased the 608-pound (275 kilogram) Bluefin.

The fisherman who caught the motorcycle-sized tuna, 73-year-old Masahiro Takeuchi, advised Japan information outlet, KYODO Information, that the fish was “as fats as a cow.”

“It is like a dream. I am all the time frightened about what number of extra years I can do that job, however I am extremely glad,” he mentioned.

The Onodera Group has gained the public sale for the final 5 years.

“The primary tuna is supposed to convey luck,” Onodera Group President Shinji Nagao advised reporters after the public sale. “Our hope is that by consuming this tuna everybody can have a great 12 months.”

The costliest tuna went for $3.1 million (333.6 million yen) in 2019 for a 278-kilogram (round 612 kilos). The public sale first opened in 1935.
